All of our housekeeping cottages* have shared access to the common beach area,
where guests may swim, lounge on our Adirondack chairs, or enjoy unfettered access to numerous water craft (life jackets are required, and are available).
We have canoes, kayaks, rowboats and paddleboards.
The beach has a sandy bottom out to a depth of about five feet.
*Housekeeping cottages are self-maintained (we do not include daily housekeeping services). Each cottage is equipped with a vacuum cleaner, and cleaning supplies. We ask that you please leave the cottage in the same condition that you found it, thanks.
All cottages are all non-smoking & no pets.
Each fully furnished cottage has wifi, cable TV, modern kitchen & bath facilities, heat, fans, blankets, pillows, and a guide book for the area. Kitchens are equipped with a microwave, refrigerator, range oven, cooking utensils, pots & pans, dishware and wipe cloths & towels, coffeemaker, and some paper goods (paper towels & napkins).
Basically, the cottages have all the essentials for meal preparation - except the groceries.
Each cottage also has a gas grill outside, and a few fire pits are also on the premises.
We make every attempt to provide fire wood, when requested.
Our Cedar Lodge arrived in the winter of 2000 on the back of a flat bed truck from Ward Log Homes of Houlton, Maine. We furiously put it together in freezing cold temps, and had it ready for occupancy that July! It's been one of our most popular and adored rentals ever since. In fact, it didn't take long for it to earn the nickname 'The Log Mahal'.
3+ bedrooms - max. 8 - ideal for families... It sports 3 bedrooms; a kingsize bed upstairs, a queen master bedroom downstairs, and a double bed/twin bed bunk bed set-up also downstairs. The upstairs loft has a comfortable futon sofa sleeper, also. The second floor bathroom has a built-in deep tub, and the first floor has a walk-in shower. The screened-in porch has an open fireplace facing the lake. As with all four of our cottages, it is fully furnished, with a well-equipped kitchen (including a dishwasher) for those who love to cook on vacation.
Ceiling fans on the second floor vaulted ceiling help keep the space warm in the cooler months, and cooler in the hot season. There is a wood burning stove for off season rentals. A recent installation of a heat pump provides additional warmth, as well as cooling during those rare, extreme heat waves. The ground floor has an open floor plan for it's kitchen, dining & living-room areas.

More recently redecorated, it features an open layout of a galley kitchen, dining area, and living-room with sliding glass doors on to the deck. There is electric baseboard heat, and the recent addition of a heat & cooling unit (mini split/heat pump) for heat and air conditioning during our occasional summer heat waves. Chesuncook Cabin is named after Chesuncook Lake, a reservoir in the North Maine Woods and Piscataquis County, Maine. Why our quaint cabin here in Boothbay was named after the third largest lake in Maine is a mystery to us. We inherited these cottages from the second owners. The original owners, the Orne family, established this cottage colony way back in the early '60's!
Surrounded by woods at the base of a dramatic rock cliff, Chesuncook Cabin will have you experiencing authentic Maine living. A log construction, with a screened-in porch & roomy open deck facing great views of the lake, Chesuncook Cabin is dripping with charm. It is surprisingly comfortable and accommodating for it's size.
As with all our cottages, this one is equipped with all the essentials for a totally relaxing Maine getaway. Having said that, there's plenty of room for your little one, too!
